Between July and September of 2023, the East Kalimantan (Kaltim) Province saw an increase of investment realisations to IDR 18.78 trillion. According to Mr. Puguh Harjanto, head of the East Kalimantan Province Investment and One-Stop Integrated Services (DPMPTSP), this number has risen by IDR 4.48 trillion, or 23.97%, as compared to the same period last year. Investments totaling IDR 13.79 trillion came from domestic sources, while investments totaling IDR 4.98 trillion came from foreign sources.

In the third quarter of 2023, the data showed that the pharmaceutical, basic chemical, and chemical goods industries had the largest investment realization in Domestic Investment (PMDN).

Mr. Puguh Harjanto, head of the East Kalimantan DPMPTSP, revealed that the pharmaceutical, basic chemical, and chemical goods industries have achieved investments totaling IDR 4.59 trillion. According to him, this area was also able to put 33.30% of the overall investment into the corporate world.

Followed by the chemical industry is the mining industry, with investment worth up to IDR 4.54 trillion or equivalent to 32.92% of total realization. Meanwhile, the food crops, plantations and livestock sectors are in third position.

Based on data provided by the Ministry of Investment/Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), it is evident that 14,283 workers were employed in East Kalimantan during the third quarter of 2023 on PMDN and PMA projects. Of these, 8,950 were Indonesian workers (TKI) and 49 were foreign workers (TKA). Additionally, according to Mr. Puguh, Balikpapan City had the highest workforce acceptance at 2,333 individuals, followed by East Kutai Regency at 2,278 individuals and Kutai Kartanegara Regency at 3,866 individuals.

An increase in investment is thought to have a direct impact on the number of employment possibilities that currently exist. It is envisaged that this economic growth, which is both sustainable and stable, will lead to opportunities and bring about economic development that is both balanced and inclusive. This objective corresponds with that of Chemical Indonesia 2024.
